Jurnal Ilmiah Peuradeun · Vol. 2, No. 3, September 2014 · 2014-09
Abstract
This article discusses the meaning of violence in Acehnese society and its relationship to religion, particularly since Aceh joined the Republic of Indonesia. Using socio-historical and socio-anthropological approaches, the author proposes a reformulation of Acehnese identity grounded in the cosmology of adat (customary tradition) and Islam as a way out of the chaos of the memory of violence. It was originally presented at a public discussion at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, IAIN Ar-Raniry, on 29 October 2013.
