Apa Tugas Sastrawan sebagai Khalifah Allah [What Is the Task of the Writer as God's Vicegerent (Khalifah Allah)]
1984
Abstract
A book by Prof. A. Hasjmy (1914–1998), a writer, ulama (Islamic scholar), and educational figure from Aceh, former Governor of Aceh and founder of IAIN Ar-Raniry, who reflects on the responsibility of the literary writer from an Islamic perspective. Starting from the concept of the human being as khalifah Allah (God's vicegerent) on earth, Hasjmy regards literary work not merely as aesthetic expression but as a moral trust and a means of dakwah (Islamic propagation): writers are called upon to voice the truth, defend humanity, and instil divine values through their works. The book is an important part of the discourse on Islamic literature in Indonesia in the 1980s and reflects the blend of Hasjmy's experience as a poet of the Pujangga Baru generation and his role as an Acehnese Islamic thinker.
