Abstract

Sinar Darussalam magazine, "Medium Pengetahuan dan Kebudayaan" (A Medium of Knowledge and Culture), No. 223, December 1998 - January 1999 issue, published by Yayasan Pembina Sinar Darussalam (YPSD) with the support of Universitas Syiah Kuala, IAIN Jami'ah Ar-Raniry, the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (Indonesian Ulama Council), the Lembaga Adat dan Kebudayaan Aceh (LAKA, Aceh Institute of Custom and Culture), and the Majelis Pendidikan Daerah (MPD, Regional Education Council). Published since the late 1960s from Kopelma Darussalam, Banda Aceh, Sinar Darussalam is one of the oldest popular-scientific magazines in Aceh, featuring studies of religion, education, history, adat (custom), and Acehnese culture. The cover of this issue shows a rumoh Aceh, the traditional Acehnese stilt house. This issue appeared in the early period of Reformasi and just before the escalation of the Aceh conflict, which makes it valuable as a source for the intellectual history of Aceh.
