Abstract
A catalogue of the handwritten manuscripts in the library collection of Dayah (pesantren, traditional Islamic boarding school) Tanoh Abèë in Seulimeum, Aceh Besar, one of the most important repositories of Islamic manuscripts in Southeast Asia. This dayah was founded by the family of Syekh Fairus al-Baghdadi and, during the Aceh War against the Dutch (1873–1913), became a centre of learning and resistance; its library holds hundreds of Arabic and Jawi manuscripts inherited from ulama such as Hamzah Fansuri, Syamsuddin as-Sumatrani, Nuruddin ar-Raniri, and Abdurrauf as-Singkili. Compiled by Dra. Zunaimar and Tgk. M. Dahlan al-Fairusy, heirs and custodians of the dayah, this Book II describes each manuscript: title, author, language and script, field of knowledge (tauhid, fiqh, tasawuf, tafsir, hadith, nahwu, falak, tib), physical condition, size, number of pages, illumination, and colophon. Its cover displays an illuminated page and the inscription of Dayah Tanoh Abee. This catalogue serves as a principal research aid for scholars of philology, intellectual history, and the preservation of Acehnese manuscripts.
