Bunga Rampai dari Negeri Kanguru: Kumpulan Karangan [An Anthology from the Land of the Kangaroo: Collected Essays]
Panji Masyarakat, Jakarta · 1981
Abstract
A collection of essays by Prof. Dr. Deliar Noer (1926–2008), political scientist and historian of the Indonesian Islamic movement, written during his stay in Australia, when he taught and conducted research at Griffith University and the Australian National University in the 1970s after being removed from the post of rector of IKIP Jakarta. Published by Panji Masyarakat, these writings record Deliar's observations on society, politics, education, and religious life in the "land of the kangaroo", the life of the Muslim community and of Indonesian students there, and Australian views of Indonesia. From an outsider's perspective, he also reflects on the state of his homeland during the New Order: democracy, academic freedom, and the role of the Muslim community. The book shows Deliar Noer's side as an essayist and cultural observer, complementing his academic works.
