Abstract

The cover story of Tempo magazine, 9 May 2010 issue, entitled "Serangan Balik untuk Susno" (A Counterattack against Susno), about efforts to strike back at the former Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Susno Duadji, after he exposed case-brokering (makelar kasus) practices in the case of tax official Gayus Halomoan Tambunan (holder of an account of Rp 28 billion). The article "Kandas Skenario Negeri Singa" (The Lion City Scenario Runs Aground) (Sunudyantoro, Cheta Nilawaty) reconstructs Susno's arrest by the Division of Profession and Security at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as he was about to fly to Singapore, as well as reports of his planned meeting with Sjahril Djohan and members of the Legal Affairs Commission of the DPR (House of Representatives). The article "Kartu As di Tangan Lung" (The Ace in Lung's Hand) (Oktamandjaya Wiguna, Setri Yasra) reveals that lawyer Haposan Hutagalung was said to hold a recording of the handover of US$ 500 thousand in connection with the Antaboga Deltasekuritas and PT Signature Capital case. The report is complemented by interviews with suspect Andi Kosasih ("Saya Hanya Menolong Teman" – I Was Only Helping a Friend) and with Susno Duadji ("Itu Hanya Isapan Jempol" – That Is Pure Fabrication). This set of articles documents one of the largest law-enforcement scandals of the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the internal struggle within the National Police.
