Strategi Kebudayaan untuk Bangsa [A Cultural Strategy for the Nation]
2014
Abstract
A book by Dr. Kamaruzzaman Bustamam Ahmad, M.A. (written as Kamaruzzaman BA) that considers culture as the foundation of a strategy for national development. The author starts from the conviction that Indonesia's crises, from corruption and conflict to a loss of direction, are rooted in the neglect of culture in state policy. From an anthropological perspective, he discusses the relationship of culture to national identity, religion, politics, education, and the economy; the position of regional cultures, particularly that of Aceh, within the framework of Indonesian nationhood; and the challenges that globalization poses to the nation's identity. The author proposes a cultural strategy that places values, local wisdom, and historical awareness as the foundation of national revival. The cover shows the tiered roof of a traditional mosque, a symbol of the fusion of Islam and Nusantara culture.
