Dosa-Dosa Politik Orde Baru [The Political Sins of the New Order]
Penerbit Djambatan, Jakarta · 1999
Abstract
A collection of writings by Jeffrey A. Winters, a Northwestern University political scientist known for his study Power in Motion and later Oligarchy, on the political and economic crimes of the New Order regime, published a year after the fall of Soeharto. Winters examines the corruption, collusion, and nepotism of Soeharto's family and cronies, the regime's dependence on foreign capital and debt, and the responsibility of international institutions such as the World Bank, which in his view allowed the leakage of loan funds ("odious debt") that the people subsequently had to bear. He also examines the roots of the 1997–1998 monetary crisis, the misuse of BLBI (Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance), state violence, and demands for legal accountability regarding Soeharto's wealth. The book became important reading in the early Reformasi period for understanding the political economy of the New Order and was the forerunner of Winters's argument about oligarchy in Indonesia.
