Abstract
A sociological study of corruption and power in Aceh: the meaning of corruption, elites and power, the function of religion as a means of control, the experience of Acehnese civil society from the timang system to the social revolution, the influence of the power paradigm of the Javanese court (keraton) and of the New Order, extractive institutions, and three ways of change: systems of thought, morality, and checks and balances.
