Abstract
Coverage in Tempo's Politics section of the bloody clash in the area of the tomb of Mbah Priok, Koja, North Jakarta, on 14 April 2010, between residents and the Municipal Police Unit (Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja). The article "Beradu Dokumen Warisan Kompeni" (A Contest of Documents Inherited from the Dutch Company; Cheta Nilawaty) sets out the investigations of the Indonesian Red Cross and Komnas HAM (the National Human Rights Commission), Jakarta Governor's Instruction No. 132 of 2009, and the land ownership dispute between the heirs of Habib Hasan bin Muhammad al-Haddad and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II, both of which rely on documents from the Dutch East Indies era (eigendom rights and a 1934 verklaring). The article "Makam Keramat Banyak Versi" (A Sacred Tomb of Many Versions; Dwijo U. Maksum, Tito Sianipar) traces the confusing history of Mbah Priok according to the historian J.J. Rizal, the Betawi observer Alwi Shahab, and the tomb's custodians: differences in the years of birth and death, the genealogy of the al-Haddad family in Palembang, the relocation of the tomb to Semper, and the myths of the cooking pot (periuk) and Aki Tirem. The coverage records the intersection of issues of land, urban planning, state authority, and popular piety in Jakarta.
