Bank Ancam Tinggalkan London: Reaksi jika Inggris Keluar dari Uni Eropa [Banks Threaten to Leave London: The Reaction if Britain Leaves the European Union]

Kompas · 2014-08-20

Abstract

An international report in the daily Kompas (from Reuters, AP, and AFP) on the threat by United States-based banks such as Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America to move branch offices from London to Ireland in anticipation of a possible British exit from the European Union, as reported by The Financial Times. The report explains the dispute between Prime Minister David Cameron's government and Brussels, the plan for a referendum on EU membership in 2017 if Cameron were re-elected in 2015, and concerns over London as a global financial centre accounting for around 10 percent of Britain's economic activity. The second part sets out the scandal over the manipulation of the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor): former Rabobank employees Paul Robson and Takayuki Yagami were found guilty in the United States, Rabobank was fined 325 million US dollars, and the FDIC filed suit against Rabobank, HSBC, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, and other international banks. This clipping records the early seeds of the Brexit discourse two years before the 2016 referendum.
