KPK dan Jokowi-JK [The KPK and Jokowi-JK]

Kompas · 2014-08-26

Abstract

An opinion article by Adnan Pandu Praja, Commissioner of the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), in the daily Kompas, with an illustration by Didie SW, calling on president-elect Joko Widodo to honour his promise to increase the KPK's budget tenfold and the seven points of the Anti-Corruption Commitment signed by the Jokowi-JK pair at the KPU (General Elections Commission) building on 1 July 2014. The author notes that since the KPK was founded there had been 69,773 complaints but fewer than 500 cases handled directly, as well as a tendency to become more permissive toward corruption with age and education, which makes the Mental Revolution relevant. He proposes an integrity test for candidates for the president's aides with three elements, clean, clear, and hebat (excellent): clean of the past, clear as to the origins of their wealth, and brave enough to be honest and to refuse intervention, including examining the family tree to the third degree as in South Korea, involving spouses in signing the commitment, and regular national coordination between the KPK and the president. At the bottom of the clipping is an Editorial Introduction (Pengantar Redaksi) on the piece by the diplomat Ben Perkasa Drajat, "Revolusi Politik Luar Negeri" (A Revolution in Foreign Policy).
